VASIND (Thane):Top seeded Yugandh Zende made a brilliant rally from 1-3 down to oust eight seeded Advait Karmalkar 7-11,11-2,9-11,9-11,11-4,11-9,11-6 to enter the men’s singles semifinals of the 3rd JSW- Thane Table Tennis ranking tournament, organized by Jindal Sports Academy at their sports training centre, at Vasind here today. In fact, it was just a repeat show of their youth boys singles encounter which Zende had prevailed 4-3 yesterday.

In other closely contested men’s singles quarterfinal ties, fourth seeded Sahil Joshi got the better of fifth seeded Ajay Patil (5) 12-10, 9-11,8-11,11-8,11-4,11-7, third seeded Mayuresh Kelkar put out sixth seeded Tushar Joshi 3-11,11-9,11-6,10-12,11-5,11-8 and second seeded Jash Dalvi downed Siddhesh Kubal 4-0 (11-5, 11-8,11-7, 13-11).
In fact, Advait not only matched Zende stroke for stroke, but at times he just outplayed the top seed to lead 3-1. However, the fortunes turned from the fifth game onwards when Zende just unsettled him with controlled aggression to win the next three games to make the last four grade.
