Thanks to incisive spin bowling by Santosh Goswami and Sandesh Yadav, Young Muslims Sports Club defeated Ours Cricket Club (Virar) by 39 runs in the final of the Seth Gordhandas Suburban Shield cricket tournament , hosted by Khar Gymkhana yesterday. This was the 78th year of the tournament and for the first time, it was played in T20 format under floodlights at Khar Gymkhana.
Opting to bat first, Young Muslims SC scored 141 in the allotted 20 overs before they were all out. In reply, Ours CC struggled in their chase of 142, as spinners Sandesh Yadav (2/11) and Santosh Goswami (2/14) bowled tight to restrict them to 112 for seven.
Earlier in the semifinals, Young Muslims SC thrashed Friends CC by 112 runs while Ours CC won against Maskati CC by 7 wickets.
