Yash wins men’s hurdles, Omkar top in boys U-18
Yash Pawar and Omkar Karekar, both from Dombivli’s Winners Club took the honours in their respective 110 metres hurdles events in style on the second day of the 42nd Bombay YMCA State Level Athletic championships at the University Stadium, Marine Lines here today. However, both fell short of the existing records.
Unlike the first day, when only one meet record was set, four new meet records were re-written today. Three of them were established by girls in different age groups.
Mumbai’s Spandon Eco Foundation’s Aadinath Bhosale taking an early lead, kept a steady pace right through to win the 5000 run in an impressive timing of 15:61.7 secs. In the process Aadinath added third gold to two Spandon Eco Foundation’s Snehal Hirave’s women’s 5000m and Akansha Shelar under-18 girls 1500m won earlier.
Result of record-breaking events Boys U-18: 200m: 1. Preet Surve (Seven Stars SA Thane) – 22.2 NMR (OR: 22.3 secs).
Girls U-16: Shot Put: Agrata Melkunde (Fatima SC- Airoli) – 12.13 mts (NMR)- OR: 10.83 mts.
Girls U-14: 200m: Nupur Kumbhar (Goenka Edu. Trust-Goregaon) – 26.2 secs (NMR) –OR 26.7 secs.
Women+35 :Shot Put: . Suchitra Shetty (Masters Athletics, Kandivali) – 9.73 mts (NMR)-OR 6.62 mts.
Men+35 :Shot Put: 1. Nimesh Desai (On The Run) – 12.61 mts (NMR)- OR :12.12 mts. 2. Santosh Pardesi (Chembur Trackmasters) – 10.52 mts; 3. Vinayak Shirke (Aim SA, Mira Rd)- 9.13 mts.
