Wrishalee recovers to beat Unaiza


In an interesting encounter of Women’s 45 + first round match Wrishalee Patil of Jalgaon fought back after losing the first game to overcome Unaiza Punjabi of Mumbai Suburban 20-22, 21-18, 21-14  to also advance to the second round in the Maharashtra Badminton Association Senior State Veteran’s Championship – 2018 organised and co-hosted by Badminton 45 and Bombay Gymkhana and played at the  gymkhana’s badminton courts on Wednesday.

However, Top seed Naheed Divecha of Greater Mumbai smoothly sailed into women’s singles (45+) second round Divecha tamed Arati Patwardhan of Pune 21-5, 21-4 in a first round encounter. Meanwhile, second seed Deepali Joshi of Pune did not have to break into a sweat as she received a walkover from Archana Gore of Sindhudurg District who failed to report for her match.

In men’s (55+) singles action, Pune shuttler Avadhut Joshi showed good all-round play to put it across Budhiras Gurung of Mumbai Suburban winning in straight games at 21-11, 21-16.

 

In another match, Satara’s Sanjay Bhagwat ground out a hard fought win against Mumbai Suburban Satinder Malhotra winning in three games at 21-14, 16-21, 21-11.
