Warriors snatch 2nd win; Marathas tame Heroes


Shivaji Park Warriors maintained the winning momentum and snatched a tense 3-wicket win against Ghatkopar Jets to register their second consecutive win in five-team double leg Mumbai Cricket Club (MCC) and Jwala Sports Foundation (JSF) organized MitsuiShoji T20 Cricket League (Season 9), played at the Oval Maidan ground on Tuesday.

Earlier, Thane Marathas started on a winning note as they defeated Bandra Heroes by 5-wickets in the morning.

The Warriors who had defeated Mumbai Police City Riders on Monday, stayed calm and focused as they managed to pull off a win from the final delivery as they surpassed the winning target scoring 155 for 7 wickets from their stipulated 20 overs. Opener Onkar Jadhav 52 runs (45-balls, 5×4,1×6) and  Adeeb Usmani unbeaten 35 runs (24-balls, 4×4) ensured Warriors sealed the win. Sayyid Saqlain 2 for 27 and Yogesh Sawant 2 for 30 were the Ghatkopar bowlers to get the wickets.

Electing to bat, Ghatkopar Jets scored 152 runs for 6 wickets from 20 overs Ruturaj 39 (34-balls, 4×4,1×6), Riday Khandke unbeaten 35 runs (31-balls, 3×4) and Sayyid Saqlain 22 runs lifted their innings, but proved to small to defend.

Earlier, Thane Marathas decided to field first and then bowled tidily to dismiss Bandra Heroes for a paltry 119 runs in 19.5 overs. A collective effort from off-spinner Ronak Shinde 2 for 15, medium pacers Bhavya Attrey 2 for 17 and Vishal Varande 2 for 19 and left-arm spinner Nehal Katakdhond 2 for 19 destroyed the rival batting. Left-handers Ajit Yadav 41 runs (38-balls, 3×4) and Sahil Jadhav 27 runs (22-balls, 3×4) were the only two batters to get some runs in the middle.

Later, Thane Marathas comfortably crossed the finishing line scoring 122 runs for 5 wickets in 16.2 overs. The leading batsmen were the two openers Kaushal Valsangkar 41 runs (39-balls, 5×4) and Parikshit Valsangkar 28 runs (17-balls, 4×4,1×6)  and lower-order bat Shubham Chhag 28 (24-balls, 3×4) ensured Marathas completed the win. Medium pacer Sandip Kanchi 2 for 23 and off-soinner Altamas 2 for 12 were the only successful bowlers.
