Wadala Spikers sail into semis

Wadala Spikers dished out a solid determined performance and managed to get the better of Chembur YMCA in three well-contested sets by a close 2-1 margin in a Men’s Open quarter-final match of the 64th Bombay Callan Cup Volleyball Tournament 2019, and played at the YMCA Abdul Rehman playground, Jhulla Maidan, Agripada, Mumbai Central.

 

In a closely fought match, Wadala Spikers managed to narrowly win the first set, but faced a strong challenge from Chembur YMCA, who did well to take the second set over extra point. However, in the decider the Wadala side played aggressively and with good coordination and powerful smashed grabbed the third set to seal the match winning at 25-23, 25-27 and 15-6,

 

Meanwhile, both the Bombay YMCA teams comfortably progressed to the semi-finals. In quarter-final encounters, the YMCA ‘A’ side defeated Jhunjhunwalla College 25-18, 25-16 and the YMCA ‘B’ outfit got the better of Parle Boys 24-23, 25-16.

 

In the fourth quarter-final, Navroze Baug stromed to a fluent straight sets win against Hoopers SC coasting to a 25-19, 25-21 victory.

Bombay YMCA ‘B’ beat Parle Boys 25-23, 25-16;

 

Wadala Spikers beat Chembur YMCA 25-23, 27-25, 15-6;

 

Bombay YMCA ‘A’ beat Jhunjhunwalla College 25-18, 25-16.
