It was a tough decision for the chief referee late evening today at the All Mumbai 4 Star Table Tennis tournament organised by Khar Gymkhana and Sonsored by DCB Bank and played under the auspices of TSTTA and MCDTTA. They had to take a decision to select the top and second position players from Group no. 20 in Men’s Singles qualifying league. Vishal Yadav, Vishesh Sarda, Nitesh Kumawat and Smit Teli were fighting among themselves to secure the first two positions from this group to qualify for the main draw.
Smit Teli was the only player from this group, who lost to above mentioned three players from his group. But, surprisingly, Vishal, Vishesh and Nitesh lost among themselves to each other and tied up with 5 points each. To decide the first two places the Match referee had to take into account the number of points won and this method turned out to be beneficial to Vishesh Sarda who finally took the first position, followed by Nitesh Kumawat securing 2nd position to qualify for the main draw of Men’s Singles to be played on Saturday evening. Vishesh from MCF Club, Borivali and 12th standard Science student of Nirmala Niketan College , Kandivali was more than happy to see him top the group in this situation.
Saurabh Mohite who has joined 39+ group this season, emerged outright Winner from his Group no. 17 of Men’s Singles after beating Jayant Shenoy, Parikshit Jain and Chirag Soni successively. He topped his group before entering the main draw. Earlier, Saurabh had also entered the main draw of Veterans’ 39+ Singles after playing his qualifying matches .
