Vinita Shukla bags double crown at IMPTTA Ranking TT


Vinita Shukla from MCF Club, Borivali, proved her supremacy in the individual as well as team events at the recently concluded IMPTTA Ranking TT tournament at PTKS, Vile Parle.

Vinita bagged her first Gold in Women’s 39+ Singles, when she beat Priyanka Ghumre in three straight games. Thereafter, partnering Bibiana Lopez, she bagged her second Gold in Women’s 39+ team event after beating Gayatri Mohan & Manisha Pradhan. Former TT player, who played for Madhya Pradesh as a Junior, made her comeback last year, when she participated in the Women’s 39+ events at the state and National Masters’ events and has won many medals.

This TT tournament which had attracted more than 200 entries, received very good response, as it was held in honour of international level Masters Rajesh Mudam and Anil Rasam, who have been playing the game of table tennis for the past 42 years. And both of them lived up to the expectations of their well wishers, as Rajesh won Gold in the Men’s 59+ singles defeating Purshottam Markad, while Anil Rasam bagged Silver, after going down 2-3 to evergreen Prakash Kelkar in the finals of Men’s 64+ Singles.

Kiran Salian put up a good show in this tournament, as he beat favourite Sameer Bhate in the semi finals and Tejas Naik in the finals of Men’s 49+ Singles. In Men’s 39+ finals, Kedar Kasbekar emerged new winner, after defeating Rupesh Gharat; while Prakash Kelkar, Ulhas Shirke, Satish Shirsat, Suhasini Bakre, Sivapriya Naik & Swati Agharkar proved their superiority winning Gold in their respective age group events.

The overall tournament was a grand success with a lot of efforts put in by Team Sameer Bhate with the tireless support coming from Sachin D’Souza, Sumedh Patekar, Naveen Verghese, Rakesh Nigudkar, Bharat Kotecha and others. Free Breakfast including tea and quality lunch was served to all the participants on both the days of matches.

Mr. Anil Rasam and Rajesh Mudam were felicitated on this occasion by Ulhas Shirke and Sameer Bhate, when they were presented with mementos in appreciation of their contribution to the game of Table Tennis.   

Popular actor and an active TT player Mr. Sameer Soni was special guest of honour on the final day and he appreciated the interest and dedication of large number of senior participants in both mens and womens events. In his short speech addressed to the participants, he said that Table Tennis was the best game for your physical and mental wellness.
