Maharashtra State Schools Chess Championship
Top-seeded Vinit Dhoot (ELO 1654) of Nashik and eighth-seed Greeshma Dhumal (ELO 1523) from Thane, both with four points each from as many rounds enjoy the sole lead in the boys’ and girls’ U-16 section respectively, in the Mahavir Prasad Morarka Memorial Maharashtra State Schools Chess Championship 2018, which is being played, here, at the Nehru Centre, Worli.
Both Vinit and Greeshma continued with their winning spree by scoring victories over Ankit Bhattacharya and Rajalakshmi Vishwanathan respectively.
In the Boys’ U-14 section, Rachit Lund (1523) and Rishi Kadam (1539) share the lead with four points apiece, while in the Girl’s category Kiyarra Khaturia (ELO 1511) of Mumbai enjoys the sole lead.
In an interesting Girls’ U-6 match, Naisha Jain and Sumukha Guttula were engaged in a keen tussle, but the latter with some clever play managed to win the contest.
The lead in the Boys and Girls U-12 event is taken by Ritvik Krishnan (1754) and Tanvi Borate (1029) with a perfect score of 4/4. Tikam Aradhya and Vedant Vekhande leads jointly in Boys U-10 category while Ashika Kale leads in the Girls U-10 category.
The top-two players in each category will be selected to represent Maharashtra in the National Schools Championship 2019 to be held at Kolkata.
