Vibgyor upset St. Francis D’Assisi

Goregaon’s Vibgyor sprang a surprise as they held fancied st. Francis D’Assisi goalless at full time and then eliminated them in a tie-breaker to sail into  under-14  pre-quarterfinals from group ‘B’   of the DSO’s (Divisional Sports Office)’s Mumbai Suburban (Taluka) Football tournament, organised and sponsored by Vision Sports Reconnect and Fairplay Sports Management at St. Francis D’Assisi ground, Borivali, here today. It was a day with as many as three of the eight matches scheduled were decided on tie-breakers. There will be no matches at this venue on Saturday and Sunday.

The Goregaon outfit next will take on Malad’s Ryan International, who too had to go through some harrowing time before they  prevailed over St. Rock’s (Borivali) 5-4 after the regulation period saw both sides locked at 1-1. However, the day’s most exciting tie was between Rustomjee Cambridge Junior college and D.G.Khetan (Malad). Both sides fought tooth and nail all the way before they were asked to resort  to the tie-breaker after sharing the honours (2-2) at the end of the allotted time. Even during the tie-breakers it was close call  with  Rustomjee just managing to pip Khetan 5-4.
