Just a day after Vibgyor High School’s girls won the Under -11 basketball tournament, their boys did the star turn and claimed the same title in Sports For All 2016 at the DY Patil Stadium here on Thursday.
Playing against Vibgyor High School, Malad in the finals, the Goregaon boys made it a one sided affair by winning 28-3. In the third place play-off match, Gurukul Educational Institute beat DY Patil International School 8-7 to walk away with the bronze medal.
In handball, Lady Ratanbai & Sir Mathuradas Vissanji thrashed Ryan International School, Chembur 10-1 in the Under-10 boys’ finals to win the championship. The third place went to Apeejay High School who beat Jamnabai Narsee International School 2-0.
In the Under-14 boys’ volleyball category, Children’s Academy, Thakur Complex entered the quarterfinals with a 25-13, 25-13 win over Saraswati Secondary School. Children’s Academy, Ashok Nagar also eased into the last eight by beating Gurukul Educational Society Institution 19-25, 25-20, 20-15. KES Little Angels and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Vidyalaya also qualified for the last eight by beating Amrita Vidyalaya (25-6, 25-6) and Bal Bharati Public School 25-0, 25-5 respectively.
The badminton event also saw shuttlers in the Under-13 Boys’ category clash in the preliminary stages. Nishid Parab of Delhi Public School (Nerul) and Rashul Varshney of Ryan International School (Kharghar) engaged in an intense tussle, with Nishid holding on to his nerves to win the match 15-9, 14-15, 15-16. In another match, Arnav Choudhury of Delhi Public School (Nerul) beat Sanskar Gupta 15-14, 12-15, 15-13 in a highly entertaining clash.
In the girls’ Under-16 football event, Ryan International School set the field on fire with their 11-0 win St. Augustine High School to qualify for the quarterfinals tournament. Cambridge School, Kandivali also made it to the last eight round with a 6-0 win over RBK International School, Bhayandar, while JBCN International School, Parel advanced to the next round by beating St. Xaviers High School, Airoli 3-1 on penalties, after they ended 0-0 in the regulation time.
The opening day of the tennis tournament in the boys’ Under-10 category saw Ruhaan Vishal of Oberoi International School beat Akshaj Subramanaiam of Smt. Sulochonadevi Singhania School 4-3 to qualify for the next stage. Vivaan Prakash of Jamnabai Narsee School beat Yash Sharma of RBK School, Mira Road 4-2 to move into the quarterfinals.
