Kumud Rai, Popularly known as KK in table tennis circle all over India and abroad is no more. He passed away today morning, after his brave fight against cancer. Few days ago, KK had undergone chemotherapy, as part of his treatment to cure this deadly ailment. Little before that he had even given his entry for the Jaipur veterans National TT, but could not make it.
It may be recalled that KK Rai had won various National Titles in 40+ and 50+ age groups, besides winning several trophies for Maharashtra. The stylish TT player from Maharashtra who played with penholder grip, KK played the game of table tennis for almost 40 years. He also represented India at various Asian and World veterans TT Tournaments and bagged many prizes. KK had also mastered the technique of Hardbat Table Tennis and had even won the national Open Tournament of Hardbat TT at Juhu Gymkhana .
Always cheerful, KK had many friends and well wishers all over the world. Another good quality in him was that he always appreciated his opponent’s game during the match. With his untimely demise Table tennis fraternity in India has not only lost a good player but also a good coach and excellent human being.
