Walter Vaz of Bombay Gymkhana showed strong fighting qualities as he recovered to overcome Chiplun’s Omkar Gore 3-2 in an interesting snooker first round qualifying match of the BSAM Maharashtra State Senior Snooker & Billiards Selection (leg-2) Championship 2018, and played at the Bombay Gymkhana billiards room on Monday.
The Chiplun’s cueist Gore won a close first frame by a a tight one point difference and went on to pocket the second to take a 2-0 lead. But, Vaz made optimum advantage of the home conditions and won the next three frames on the trot to clinch a 51-52, 46-53, 58-30, 66-34 and 69-56 victory.
There was no problem for Siddhesh Mulay of Chiplun as he got the better of Ameya Sankhala of Park Club by a fighting 3-2 margin. Mulay started well by taking first frame but lost the next two to trail 1-2. But he bounced back winning the last two frames to snatch a 44-52, 64-9, 15-57, 57-9 and 59-30 win to advance to the next round.
