Unseeded Pintoo Rai scored an upset win over fifth seed Jaisingh Thory to advance to the quarter-final round of the Men’s Open event of the Rs 75,000 prize money JVPG-ISP Squash Championship, which is the 116th tournament to be organised by the Indian Squash Professionals (ISP). In a pre-quarter-final encounter Rai playing confidently overcame Thory in three games at 11-6, 9-11, 12-10 at the JVPG squash courts.
Meanwhile in other last 16 matches, top seed Samir Mistry was taken the distance before putting it across Dipesh Jadhav 11-6, 7-11, 11-1, while second seed Ganesh Kadam easily accounted for Ansh Sushil Punjabi winning in straight games at 11-8, 11-6.
In an exciting men’s over 35 years first round encounter, Vijay Darak fought hard to overcome a determined Hardip Dhupia posting a 11-5, 7-11, 12-10 victory to advance to the next round.
