UnitedFC,Packers emerge champions


United Football Club and Bandra Packers lifted the women’s and boys’ under-14 titles respectively in the 15th Bandra West Football League 2016, sponsored by Baba Siddique & Zeeshan Siddique and conducted by the BWFA (Bandra West Football Association) and played at the Dr. Norman Lewis Supari Talao, Municipal grounds.

The women’s finals saw an intense competition between United FC and Football Leaders Academy and at the end of the regulation period the contest finished in a 2-2 stalemate. The tie-breaker was resorted to decide the outcome and United FC showed better nerves in the penalty shootout duel to come through 4-3 to clinch a decisive 6-5 win and emerge champions.

In regular time, Sruthilaxmi VK and Akansh Kandalkar scored for United FC while Neha Ture scored both the goals for Football Leaders. In the tie-breaker Afreen Peerbhoy, Abeer Arsiwala, Reva Sankhe and Sruthlakshmi VK found the net for United FC while Priya Tiwari, Suman Salian and Karishma Vazirani were successful for Football Leaders Academy.

Meanwhile, Bandra Packers scored once in each half through Adam Alvares and Joshua D’Souza to blank Companeroes SC 2-0 in the Boys Under-14 final.

United FC received the winners’ trophy and cheque of Rs 20,000 from Chief Guest, Karen D’Mello, a Municipal Corporator from Bandra West. Football Leader were presented with a trophy and a cash award of Rs 15,000.

Bandra Packers were richer by Rs10,000, while Companeroes received Rs 5000. Joel Barnes of Packers was judged the ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Final Results – Boy’s Under-14: Bandra Packers 2 (Adam Alvares, Joshua D’Souza) beat Companeroes SC 0.

Women’s: United FC 6 (Sruthilaxmi VK 2, Akansh Kandalkar, Afreen Peerbhoy, Abeer Arsiwala, Reva Sankhe) beat Football Leaders Academy 5 (Neha Ture 2, Priya Tiwari, Suman Salian, Karishma Vazirani) via the tie-breaker. Full time: 2-2.
