Union Bank record 4th successive win


Union Bank of India (UBI) produced another impressive performance to maintain the winning momentum and comfortably defeate Central Railway 5-2 in a league match of the Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) organised Mumbai Hockey Championship 2022, at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate on Friday.

Later in the evening, Mumbai Customs proved too good for Abhi Foundation and romped to a facile 7-1 win. For Customs Talib Shah notched up a hat-trick of goals, while Himanshu Sanik and Aniket Gurav scored two goals apiece, while Abhi Foundation scored one through Jaydeep G. late in the match.

Earlier, full backs Vinod Saini scored twice, converting an early penalty corner and later a penalty stroke, while teammates, Vijendra Singh, Rahul Shinde, and consistent scorer Aamid Khan chipped in with a goal each to complete UBI’s fourth successive win. Central tried their best to put up a fight, but they were unable to create many scoring chances and were also not compact at the back.  They managed to score two goal through Yuvraj Walmiki and Jogender Singh.

The bankers with 12 points are assured of qualifying for the final. UBI have a match in hand against CTC (Champions Training Centre) who are also unbeaten with nine points in three games. Central with just two points from four matches are out of contention.

In the only match on Saturday, Union Bank of India takes on Champions Training Centre at 4.45 pm.

Results: Union Bank of India 5 (Vinod Saini 2, Vijendra Singh, Rahul Shinde, Aamid Khan) beat Central Railway 2 (Yuvraj Walmiki, Jogender Singh).

Mumbai Customs 7 (Talib Shah 3, Himanshu Sanik 2, Aniket Gurav 2) beat Abhi Foundation 1 (Jaydeep G.).
