Union Bank rally to hold Bank of Baroda


Playing with plenty of determination and displaying solid fighting qualities Union Bank of India gallantly fought back to share honours with Bank of Baroda and a evenly contested Elite (Corporate) Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Wednesday.

Bank of Baroda started in rousing fashion and gained ascendancy when striker Niranjan Kumar scored from a snap move in the seventh minute to give his team a 1-0 lead, which they managed to maintain till the end of the first half.

However, after a pep talk at the break, Union Bank of India returned strong and energetic striker Brendon Fernandes capitalized on a clear opening to stab home the equalizing goal and ensure his team forced a draw and division of two points.

Earlier, Air India Youth continued with their impressive winning streak as the managed to get the better of Mumbai Port Trust by a narrow 2-1 margin. Strikers Raj Mishra and Sujal Patil struck a goal each for Air India, while Mumbai Port Trust got their lone goal through Yash Potdar’s efforts.

Results – First Div: Offshoots FC 3 (Dhrumil Kotak 2, John Ferreira) beat Feugo Tormento FC 2 (Pranit Gaikwad, Vishveshwaraman K.).

Super Div: Air India Youth 2 (Raj Mishra, Sujal Patil) beat Mumbai Port Trust 1 (Yash Potdar).

Elite Div: Bank of Baroda 1 (Niranjan Kumar) drew with Union Bank of India 1 (Brendon Fernandes).

YPL Boys U-13: Chetan FC 2 (Aaryar Jadhav 2) beat Fun Fit FA ‘A’ 1 (Nirwan C.).
