Girls showed character on day 2 as Uma Chauhan of National Sailing School, Bhopal snatched the lead in the optimist class beating many top-ranked boys and Ishwarya Ganesh of Tamil Nadu Sailing Association fought hard and managed to stay just behind Sathya Sudan of Trishna Sailing Club in RS One which is one of the toughest categories of the Junior Coastal Multiclass Regatta organized by Corps of Engineering Sailing Club (CESC) at the Marve Beach on Tuesday.
National Sailing School, Bhopal and Trishna Sailing Club, Bengaluru came out with flying colours and led the winner tally of the Regatta. Races started at 1100 hr when the wind was between 10 to 12 knots but later it dropped to 8 knots. Waves were still high and unrelenting.
Uma Chauhan of National Sailing Club topped the spot thwarting a tough competition from Sachin Bethmalla of Navy Boys Sailing Club, Goa in optimist class. Uma has been in the lead since the first race, breaking the myth of Sailing being a male-dominated field.
In the Rs One class, Sathiya Sudan of Trishna Sailing Club, Bengaluru continued his good run and finished the day as the top sailor. Sathiya faced a tough challenge from Ishwariya Ganesh and barely managed to hold on to his lead.
In the 420 Class race, the pair of Pilli Akhil and Binoob M of Corps of Engineers Sailing Club dominated the race with their coordination and speed to stay ahead of their opponents Dawood Qureshi and Pradeep Thakur of NSS who are trying to catch up to the table toppers.
