UBI impress with win over SAI


Union Bank of India( UBI) dished out a solid combined performance to register a convincing 5-1 win against a plucky Sports Authority of India (SAI) in a Super Division match of the MHAL League 2017-2018, at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate on Tuesday.

 

Showing good understanding Union Bank took an early lead through their prolific scorer Rajat Sharma in the sixth minute. But the young SAI outfit fought on gamely and did well to restrict the bankers to just one goal in the first half.

 

However, after switching ends, Union Bank increased the pace and struck three goals in five minutes to take the match beyond their opponents. Suraj Shahi (42nd min) and Zim Khan (46th min) scored from field efforts before full backs Harjeet Singh converted a penalty corner in the 47th minute. Prince Chaurasia fired home the fifth goal in the 69th minute. Earlier SAI managed to cut the margin of defeat when Dheeraj Vats scored from a penalty corner in teh 62nd minute.

 

Union Bank’s centre half Aakib Rahim was declared the winner of the ‘Man of the Match’ and he received a cash award of Rs 1,000.

 

On Wednesday, Central Railway take on Indian Navy at 2.30pm and later Western Railway meet Bombay Republicans at 4.00pm.

 

Results: Union Bank of India 5 (Rajat Sharma 6th, Suraj Shahi 42nd, Zim Khan 46th, Harjeet Singh 47th-PC, Prince Chaurasia 69th) beat Sports Authority of India 1 (Deeraj Vats 62nd).
