It is not an easy job to manage a weekend corporate tournament that too for three different games. But, former TT international Moon Moon Ghosh made it possible through her P3 Sports Management Company. Thanks to Mr. Jaswantbhai Mehta for making the Emerald Club available for the simultaneous conduct of three different sports namely, Squash, table tennis and Badminton.
More response was for the game of Table Tennis and therefore team event was also conducted besides Individual Singles event in Men’s and Veterans(40+) section and individual doubles event. In badminton there were individual singles for Men’s and Veterans, besides common doubles, while in Squash there were only singles event in men’s and veterans respectively.
In the team event of table tennis, we saw the dominance of Tata Consultancy Services with Vishal Yadav and Danial Oren managing to win the Finals against Jayant Gunjal & Rohit Talwalkar of Indo Star 3-1. Jayant Gunjal could win the only match for Indo Star against Danial Oren, while Vishal Yadav won both his singles and doubles along with Oren to take the required lead.
In the Men’s Singles finals Shaun Rebello of J.Kumar had an easy win in three straight games over Shishir Juvekar of Global Gyan. He however had a tough time overcoming Suraj Chandrashekar ( HDFC ) in the semi finals. Suraj had some consolation, as he won the Men’s Doubles title along with Shashank Bisht against Akshay Gangarde & Mayuresh Kelkar.
In the Veterans Singles Finals, L & T’s Atul Deshmukh stopped the winning run of Ravindra Ekande( AFCONS Infra) , who had battled very hard with his strong backhand to make the finals. Earlier in the semi finals Atul scored over Nitish Kumar, while Ravindra Ekande scored a narrow 3-2 win over Vivek Rajaraman, who had surprised seeded Vishal Yadav in quarter finals.
