Dimunitive Akanksha Kondalkar was in her element right from the start as St. Andrews junior college thrashed Bombay Scottish (Powai) 4-0 to storm into the girls under-17 quarterfinals of the Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament (for Suburban schools) of Maharashtra government’s DSO (Divisional Sports Office), organized and sponsored by Vision Sports Reconnect and Fairplay Sports Management at Francis D’Assisi high school ground (Borivali) ground here today.

Akanksha struck before Bombay Scottish girls could find their feet. Soon after Giselle Curzai added another with a fine deflection from a cross from the right flank. Later, it became a total Akanksha show as she found the target twice in quick succession to lead 3-0 at the breather. Though the Bandra outfit continued to dominate in the second half too, they could added just one more goal to their first half score. But for the Powai school’s goalkeeper, who made a couple of good saves, the score could have been doubled.
A hat-trick by Ahan Khanna saw Jamnabai Narsee (ICSE, Juhu) scoring 4-0 over St. Lawrence (Kandivali) 4-0 with Siddharth Kakkar completing the tally in the boys under-14 pre-quarterfinals. Kandivali’s Thakur VM & Junior College went through some anxious moments before they prevailed over O.P.Goenka (Juhu) 4-2 via the tie-breaker. Both were locked at 1-1 at the regulation time. But in the tie-breaker the Thakur junior college boys were on target as they scored thrice in the shoot out, while conceding just one.
