All the top players, including several current and former Indian stars, representing some of the leading teams will be seen in action during the annual Mount Carmel Open Invitation Floodlit Rink Hockey Tournament – 2019, organised by the Carmel Sports Committee at the Mount Carmel Church compound from Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 7, 2019. The tournament is being conducted under the auspices of the MHAL.
The five-a-side tournament will comprise of competition in three categories — men’s, women’s and veteran’s men and the matches promise to produce some fast-paced and exciting action. A total of 16 teams will fight it out for the top honours in the men’s category, while the women’s draw has attracted eight teams and there are five teams competing for the veterans’ men’s title.
This is a knockout tournament and each match will be played over a short 20 minute duration for women and veterans and 25 minute duration for men.
The champions and runners-up teams will be presented with trophies and cash awards. In addition there will be individual awards.
Last year’s champions Ave Maria, Mumbai Customs, Bombay Republicans, Union Bank of India, Central Railway, Rebels SC and U.K. United SC are the fancied teams in the men’s draw. The other teams who would aim to go the distance include, India Rush Hockey, Sea View SC, Jablonsky SC, Companeroes SC, Savio Hockey, Mansi Foundation, Freunds Sports Club and United Bandra SC.
The women’s draw will feature formidable teams like Central Railway, Western Railway, Bombay Republicans SC and challengers F. United, Sea View SC, Freunds SC, Hockey Troupe and Durueloites SC.
The Veterans’ event has also attracted top teams – including defending champions Rebels SC, Sunday Sultans, Hockey Dadar, Savio Hockey and Kalina Village Boys.
