3rd Indian Classic Junior Open Squash Tournament
Top seeds of the U-17 category Neel Joshi of Maharashtra and Diwakar Singh Uttar Pradesh advance to the second of the 3rd Indian Classic Junior Open Squash Tournament, organised under the aegis of SRFI and SRAM and sponsored by JSW and Raheja Vivarea at the Bombay Gymkhana glass-back squash courts on Sunday.
Neel made short work of the unseeded Laxman Pokale dropping just 4 points on his way to an 11-0, 11-3, 11-1 victory. Number 2 seed Diwakar Singh was not far as he beat Sadashiv Shingwan with relative ease by an 11-3, 11-0, 11-6 margin.
In another match, Unseeded Siddhant Sinha managed to get the better of Adityavyardhan Shekhawat who is seeded in the 17/32 bracket. Siddhant started strong against the higher ranked opponent but could not convert crucial points and lost the 1st game 10-12 but he did not let this setback affect him and Siddhant bounced back to win the game by a 10-12, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8 margin.
Meanwhile, The number 3 & 4 seed Veer Chothrani & Advit Adik both from Maharashtra put up an impressive performance in the first round. While Veer defeated Harshvardhan Kar by 11-2, 11-4, 11-6 margin, Advait stormed past the inexperienced Ronit Sidhu 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.
In the Girls U-15 category,unseeded Tanya Bafna beat a higher ranked opponent Shivani Chaudhary 4-0. Tanya was attacking her opponent from the very first minute bagging the first tw0 games by an 11-8, 11-9 margin. Tanya had the opportunity to close the game in 3 matches but a 10-12 score in the tiebreaker for the second game losing by 10-12 margin. Tanya bounced back from this setback and kept her nerves in check to win the game 11-8, 11-9, 10-8
