Pranay Shettigar and Siya Singh proved their top billing as they bested their opponents comfortably to lift the trophy at the inaugural State Open Sub Junior Badminton Tournament organised by Badminton Gurukul in association with Tata Trust and played at the District Sports Complex, BKC.
Pranay was in for a tough challenge against Manas Parulekar who took down top players on his road to the finals. Pranay showed his talent as he ran through Manas pushing him to all corners of the court defeating him 21-11, 21-12 to lift the trophy. In the Boys U-13 tie, Dev made up for his semi-finals loss in U-15 by dominating the U-13 finals defeating an unseeded Pranit Somani by 21-16, 21-13 to take the U-13 title.
In the Girls U-15, Top seed Siya Singh faced tough competition from the unseeded Alisha Khan on her road to victory. Alisha surprised Siya, matching her in speed and skill but the top seed who has played more finals got her experience into play to take off in the crunch moments and defeat Alisha 21-16, 21-18 to lift the trophy. Meanwhile, Mansita Mohapatra ran through Yutika Chavan defeating her 21-9, 21-13 to emerge victorious.
