Top seed Krishan Hooda of Chandigarh faced a bit of a challenge from unseeded Parv Nage of Haryana in a boys singles first round match of the MSLTA – Yonex Sunrise 12th Ramesh Desai Memorial CCI All India Nationals Under-16 (boys & girls) Tennis Tournament 2018. Krishan blew hot and cold as he managed to romp to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory at the Cricket Club of India tennis courts on Monday.
The Chandigarh lad started positively and quickly won the opening set, but was a bit complacent in the second and Parv exploited the situation to take the second and force the decider. However, in the third set, Krishan once gain played aggressively and hit a couple of fine winners to comfortable win the decider to wrap up the match and book his place in the second round.
Meanwhile, qualifier Yashraj Dalvi of Pune produced another consistent performance to tame Vedant Mestri also from Maharashtra in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in another first round encounter.
Karnataka’s Maanav Jain was another qualifier who came through the opening round defeating Karan Singh of Haryana 7-5, 6-2.
Chandigarh’s 12th seed Naresh Badgujar also advanced to the second round as he easily got past Delhi’s Arjun Phogaat 6-1, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Gujarat lads, Vishesh Patel and Mohit Bondre scored contrasting first round wins. Vishesh recovered after dropping the first set to overcome Maharashtra’s Sarvesh Birmane 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Mohit outclassed Delhi’s Kartik Saxena winning in two sets at 6-4, 6-0.
