Fifth six top junior players from Maharashtra, representing franchise-based teams, will feature in the 2nd edition of the Platinum Corp Super Squash Jr League, organized by Sportastic and Sportscast under the aegis of SRFI & Maharashtra Squash Racquets Association, and scheduled to be played at the JVPG Club, Juhu from Jan 11 to 13, 2019.
A total of 8 teams will be participating in the Super Squash League and each team will comprise of seven players (Boys U-11, U-13 A, U-13 B, U-15, U-17 and Girls U-15, U-17).
Some of the top players like Shreyas Mehta ( current Junior National champion) Rachit Shah, Siddhant Rewari, Om Semwal, among the boys and Anannya Morey, Aishwarya Khubchandani, Saniya Jaggi, among the girls will be a part of the league.
In order to promote the juniors, the organisers have added incentives to this year’s edition like the Super Squash Scholarship of Rs. 1 lac each to one boy and girl among the 56 players. These two players will be identified and selected by the 8 Franchisees, 2 Organizing Committee Members & 1 Representative from SRFI. The player’s performance from Jan’18 right up to Super Squash 2019 will be considered for the scholarship. The Junior National Champions will also be felicitated during the prize distribution
When asked about the tournament the organisers Kunwarpal Singh and Jigar Rambhia said, “We are very proud of the initiatives that are being taken at Super Squash which will help our champions perform without the worry of finances. Also, thankful to SRFI & MSRA for extending their support to this unique concept”.
The 8 teams will be divided into 2 groups of 4 each. Each team will play all other teams in their respective group once and the top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. Each player will have to play 3 games irrespective of the result and a total of 21 games will be played in each tie
