Thane Marathas, after smarting from their loss to defending champions Mumbai Police Cityriders yesterday, fought like tigers to notch up a nail-biting 1-run win over Shivaji Park Warriors in the Mitsui Shoji T-20 League-Season-8 , played at Oval Maidan here today.
For the second day in a row, Thane Marathas opted to bat first after winning the toss. After losing the openers with 44 runs on the board, Sandeep Konchikurve (47) and Yogesh Pawar( n.o. 39) added 64 runs for the third wicket, which helped them to put up a challenging scores of 165 for five off 20 overs. Apart from them, opener Mehboob Khan batted attractively to hit up half century.
Chasing 166 for victory, Shivaji Park Warriors batsmen, apart from fighting knock by Sachin Yadav (70) and their captain Parkshit Valsangkar (28), were jittery for major part of the chase, especially in the last over when they needed just 12 runs, and needed four runs of the last ball, but ended with 164 for eight. The architect of Thane outfit’s win was Yogesh Pawar’s allround show. He scored 39 and then bowling tight to earn the man-of-the-match award.
