Ankit Thakkar (-100 handicap) played steadily and comfortably defeated Suresh Sawant (-30) 200-107 in a first round ((race to 200 points) match of the Chembur Gymkhana Handicap Billiards Tournament 2018, and played at the Chembur Gymkhana billiards hall. Thakkar was hitting the balls quite consistently and managed three substantial breaks of 45, 42 and 31 to march to victory.
In another match, Pankaj Khatri (-100) was in good form and compiled breaks of 61 and 32 to tame Akshay Gogai (-100) by a convincing 200-103 score line to advance to the second round.
Meanwhile, seasoned cueist Percy Patel (-30) grabbed his chance and with some good safety play managed to overcame the challenge from Ashraf A. (-30) and pulled through winning at 200-145 in a well-contested first round match.
