Tejas Salian . Mumbai University long jump record –holder, won the men’s long jump gold , eclipsing his rivals with ease on a day when as many as nine new meet records were re-written on the opening day of the India Masters Athletics 5-District Track & Field Championships, which got off to a fine start at the University Stadium here today. “It wasn’t (6.99 mts) my effort, as my best was 7.19 mts”, said Tejas afterhis triumph.
Incidentally,all the first three (Tejas Salian- 6.99 mts,, Akshay Wadkar 6.34 mts and Amey Indulkar (6.22 mts) broke the old mark of 6.18 mts.
Agnel Gymkhana’s Rosalin Lewis in 100m sprint broke the earlier record of 12.8 secs by breasting the tape in 12,54 secs. in the girls under-18 sprint. In the same section, Thane’s Pratiksha Borkar hurled javelin to 32.59 mts to improve upon the earlier mark of 29.18 mts.While Kiran Bhosale , also from Thane won the boys under-18 triple jump event in yet another record shattering triple jump event. His 13.24 mts bettered the old mark of 12.63 mts.

BOYS: U-20: 5000m: Vivek Vishwakarma (JSW-Shahpur) – 17:33.8 secs. TRIPLE JUMP: Kiran Bosale (Kreeda Prabodhiniu, Thane) -13.24 (NMR). U-18: DISCUS THROW: Sahil Dogra (Ex -Student Sports- Malad) – 45.78mts. U-16: LONG JUMP: Mahinder Sutar (SAI) – 6.21 mts (NMR).
WOMEN: Discus Throw: Gauri Bhosale (Seven-Star SA-Thane) – 23.46 mts.
GIRLS U-18: 100m: Rosalin Lewis (Agnel Gym, Vashi) – 12.54 secs (NMR). HIGH JUMP: Apoorva Ghagare (Achievers SC) – 1.39 mts. JAVLIN THROW: Prathisdka Bhosale (India Masters Athletics) -32.58 mts (NMR). U-16: LONG JUMP: Sharvari Parulekar (Udaychal HS – Vikhroli) – 5.40 mts –( NMR) and Keisha Modi (Achievers SC) – 5.30mts (BMR). Javelin Throw: Tanishta Dineshkumar (Udyachal (Vikhroli) – 24.15 mts.
