Tanishka bags double; Rohan rallies to win U-15 final


Hard-hitting Pune lass Tanishka Deshpande, though unseeded, ended with a double crown, while Nagpur’s top seeded Rohan Gurbani lived upto his top billing by winning the  title in the 2nd Maharshtra State Dr Vijay Patil Sub-junior Badminton Selection tournament, hosted by  BOR (Badminton Organisation of Raigad) at DY Patil Sports Academy at Nerul here today. But for the boys under-15 singles final, rest of the other singles  finals were straight games affairs.

Tanishka, the moment she took the court, showed in ample measures that she did not want to waste any time and thrashed her opponent Greater Mumbai’s Rudra Rane 21-9, 21-12. Later, she teamed with Janhavi Jagtap of Mumbai Suburbs to blast the Pune pair of Ananya Phadke and Shatakshi Kinikar 21-14, 21-7.

Howeve,r the boys under-15 final was quite an engrossing affair. As  Rohan  could hardly find his feet as he trailed 10-14,12-17 in the opener. He did try to put some effort at this stage but it was too late as Suhanshu ended his plight by winning the game at 21-17. Rohan, however,  did find his rhythm thereafter in the second as just outwitted his opponent (21-11) and ran away with the decider with ease (21-13) in about 40 minutes play.

The Mangrish Palekar- coached Skand Shanbhag from Nashik, gladden his coach’s heart by winning the singles title with a cakewalk21-15, 21-7 win over his Nashik teammate  Prajjwal Sonawane   (NSK).  While Pune lass Tara Shah, justified her top billing by routing Greater Mumbai’s Rudra Rane 21-15, 21-7.
