Talented youngster Naishaa stuns second seed Kareena


 

Mumbai’s young talented badminton player Naishaa Bhatoye produced another sterling performance and registered a shock straight games win against second seed Kareena Madan in a Women’s singles quarter-final match of the CCI-GMBA District Badminton Championship, jointly organized by the Cricket Club of India (CCI) and Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA).

The unseeded energetic 14-year-old Naishaa oozing with confidence and with steady play outshone her senior opponent Kareena to clinch a stunning 21-17, 21-5 victory in a minute short of half-an-hour, at the CCI badminton courts on Wednesday.

In other quarter-final matches, top seed Riya Arolkar defeated Shravani Panchal 21-8, 21-6, and third seed Samiaa Shah overcame Mithila Shinde 21-8, 21-9 to advance to the semi-finals. Fourth seed Anagha Karandikar recovered after losing the first game to beat Sakshi Barve 19-21, 21-11, and 21-14 and set up a meeting with Naishaa in the semi-finals.

In the men’s action, the top two three seeds, Viplav Kuvale, second seed and Yash Tiwari and third seed Viraj Kuvale won their respective quarter-final encounters to book their place in the semi-finals. Viplav Kuvale tamed Ruturaj Rathore winning 21-6, 21-8, while Yash got the better of Ameya Nakashe 21-11, 21-13 and Viraj fought back to overcome Nihar Kelkar 14-21, 21-13, 21-12. In the fourth quarter-final match, Siddhesh Raut defeated Satyasheel Kulkarni 21-10, 21-10.
