“Talent aplenty here in Mumbai’, says Chaminda Vaas


 

“I am very impressed with the boys here in Mumbai”, said legendary  ex-Sri Lankan  fast bowler Chaminda Vaas, who is city for the 10-day coaching camp for boys in u-14 u-16 and 17-23 age groups under Jwala Sports Foundation’s “Centre Of  Excellence For Cricket”   Scheme  at Khar Gymkhana here today. The coaching scheme is in association with Brain-4–Sports-MCC organisation.

. It was the second year that Vaas has come to hold the coaching camp in the city. He has a word of praise for the Jwala Sports Foundation. “It was tremendous effort undertaken by JSF  for the grooming these youngsters,” said Vaas during the opening day here  at Khar Gymkhana ground.

 

Wasim Jaffer, ex-Indian Test opener who is assisting Vaas along with other ex-Ranji trophy players Sanotsh Shinde, wicket-keeper Vinayak Samant and Omkar Gurav, was of the opinion that coaching has undergone tremendous change with cricket now being played in different formats – Test/Ranji trophy, 50-over one dayers and t20 instant cricket. “These boys have  to develop all round skill in  order to adept their game to play in all the formats,” said Jaffer during the break. He further stated that the present day players need quick reflexes and have to be very fit to cope up with the trend.

 

The salient features of this full day camp is that  Vaas will train the bowlers  in the fast/swing  bowling, while Wasim will show them the skill in  batting ,  fielding, temperament and fitness  aspects.

 

Giving details about the coaching , Jwala Singh, the director of the Scheme said that they have selected 40 youngsters in different age groups.  There are batches for the batting, fast bowling and spinners and younger lot are taught the silent feature  in all these aspects of the game by the coaches.
