Raigad’s unseeded Swastika Ghosh knocked out second-seeded Ashslesha Trerhan from Mumbai Suburbs in a thrilling youth girls quarterfinals of the first Maharashtra State ranking tabled tennis championships, held at Nanded last night. Swastika triumphed 11-9, 12-14, 11-1, 13-11, 12-10.
There was another upset when Shreya Despande outplayed third seeded Shruti Amrute, also from Thane 11-9, 12-14, 11-1, 13-11, 12-10. Joining them in the last four was top seeded Shrusti Haleangadi and Manshree Patil, both from Mumbai Suburbs.
Mandar Hardikar took a sweet revenge for his earlier defeat at the hands of triple crown winner Shaurya Pednekar in the Mumbai Suburbs’ MCF-MSDTTA first ranking tournament, as he beat Shaurya 11-8, 11-7, 12-14, 11-5, 11-7.
