The Indian Jr. Girls team comprising of Swastika Ghosh ( Capt.), Prapti Sen and Survi Patwar has bagged Gold medal in the team event. After beating Chinese Taipei 3-2 in a hard fought match in their group this India 2 team beat Thailand in the semis and then the India 1 team of Selena Selvakumar and Yasni 3-1 in the finals, to emerge Girls team champions at the International Table Tennis Federation’s Jordan Open World Circuit Tournament , today.
15 year old Swastika Ghosh from Navi Mumbai played captain’s role in both the crucial matches. Against Chinese Taipei Swastika won both her singles matches beating World No. 12 Cheng Ting and Fang Sih-Han . The other Singles was won by Prapti Sen. The deciding 5th match of Swastika against Chen Ting-Ting (11-5, 12-10, 9-11, 4-11, 11-6) was worth appreciating, as Cheng Ting being not only higher ranked player but also winner of the Jr. Girls title two days before at Amman. In the semi finals too, Swastika took the most crucial reverse singles match against M Parankonak of Thailand 3-0.
