Swami Vivekanand( Borivali) in final


Last year’s finalists Swami Vivekanand after some hiccups defeated Oxford Public by 20 run in the first seni-final of the Poinsur Gymkhana inter-school cricket tournament, played at their ground at Kandivali here today. They next take on Thane’s Vasant Vihar school, who thrashed Gundecha International by 82 runs in the other semifinal.

Batting first, the Vivekanand outfit after bright start  lost their way and were 8 down for 109 before Akash Mishra alongwith the tailenders  took the score to 138 before they were all out.

However, in reply, Oxford, but for gutsy unbeaten 57 by Saurabh Singh, were all at sea both against pace and spin and were dismissed fort 118.

In the other semifinal, Vasant Vihar hit up 158 with Vaibhav Bane top-scoring with 43. Chasing 159 to win, Gundecha International batsmen just fell like nine pins after a bright start against the double spin attack of Atharva Jadhav (3/19) and leftarm spinner Kaushik Bhardwaj (3/7) and were shot for 76.

Vasant Vihar (Thane) 158/8 (Yash Shaikh 34,   Vaibhav Bane 46, Harsh Shinde 21; Zenith Sachdeva 3/27) bt Gundecha  International 76 all out ( Suryansh Shedge 35; Atharva Jadhav 3/19, Kaushik Bhardwaj 34/7; Sankalp Gupta 2/20) by 82 runs.
