Defending champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) and last year’s finalists Swami Vivekanand International (Borivali) scored facile wins over their respective opponents in the semifinals of the B.Khichadia-Khar Gymkhana Suburban schools cricket tournament, held at Azad Maidan here today.
Rizvi Springfield thrashed Kandivali’s Swami Vivekanand by 78 runs. Opting to bat first, Rizvi boys hammered their way to 221 for two with Vaibhav Kalamkar (45), Yashsvi Jaiswal (n.o. 63) and Yash Salunke (n.o73) being their principal scorers. In reply, the Bandra outfit were restricted for 143 for six.
SVIS, thanks to fine allound round performance by Mumbai under-16’s Suved Parkar, who put up a fine allround performance. He bagged two for 34 off 8 overs as IES New English (Bandra) ended with 253 for nine. Chasing a big total, the SVIS top batting, hardly encountered any hiccups before achieving their goal with six wickets to spare. Suved hit an unbeaten 105 with 11 fours and a six. Other notable contributors were opener Mananja Takia (39), Rahul Kesari (44) and Rutik Rathod n.o. 42).
