Suraj Chandrashekhar known for his consistency in the game of table tennis, won the KRC-Masters’ Table Tennis tournament at the Kandivali Recreation Club, Kandivali (West) today. This one day tournament which had attracted 128 entries in Men’s 40+ Singles event was very systematically conducted with qualifying league followed by Knock-out matches on 7 tables in two separate halls.
There was one major upset in the knock out stage pre quarter finals, when Parin Thakar knocked out top seeded Naveen Salian in three straight games. However, Parin could not progress further with same form, as he went down fighting to Saros Shroff 1-3 in another well fought match. In the other three quarter finals, Suraj Chandrashekhar overcame Ravi Chopra 3-2,Prakash Kelkar beat Narendra 3-2 and Gurcharan Singh scored an easy 3-0 win over Ketan Palvankar.
The TT lovers witnessed two well contested in semi finals, where Gurcharan Singh beat Prakash Kelkar 3-1 and Suraj Chandrashekhar stopped the run of Saros Shroff with the same margin. The final match saw Suraj Chandrashekhar playing his best game to score 3-1 win over Gurcharan Singh.
The organisers had made very good arrangements for the participants ,offering good breakfast, lunch and high tea. Thanks to Tejas, Sanjay, Girish, manish, Chandresh, Girish(Kaka), Kalpesh and others for their excellent team work in making this tournament a grand success.
