Suraj Chand, Aditya Jagtap win titles


Suraj Chand and Aditya Jagtap bagged the boys’ under-17 singles and men’s singles titles respectively in the Indian Squash Professional (ISP) organised Rs two lakh prize-money JVPG-SRAM Winter Squash Open 2016, sponsored by SYSKA LED and played at Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club. This is the 125th tournament to be conducted by ISP.

In the boys final, the top-seeded Suraj with some steady play got the better of second seed Deepak Mandal in four games winning at 11-7, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6 to emerge victorious.

The men’s summit clash contested between top seed Aditya and joint third-fourth seed Aishwary Singh witnessed a keen tussle. Aditya who managed to hit some consistent winners gradually took control and went on to close out the match in straight games, winning at 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 to clinch the top honours.

The mixed under-11 singles final also turned out to be a tame affair with number one seed Vivaan Bhatia easily defeating second seed Kabir Taraporewala 11-4, 11-4, 11-5.

Yuvraj Wadhwani claimed the boys’ under-13 singles crown recording a comfortable victory against Mihit Mahale. The joint third-fourth seed Yuvraj strolled to a comfortable 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 win.

Boys’ under-13 (finals): 3 /4-Yuvraj Wadhwani bt 3 /4-Mihit Mahale 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.

Results – Mixed Under-11 (finals): 1-Vivaan Bhatia bt 2-Kabir Taraporewala 11-4, 11-4, 11-5.

Boys’ under-13 (finals): 3 /4-Yuvraj Wadhwani bt 3 /4-Mihit Mahale 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.

Boys’ under-17 (finals): 1-Suraj Chand bt 2-Deepak Mandal 11-7, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6.

Men’s singles (finals): 1-Aditya Jagtap bt 3 /4-Aishwary Singh 11-8, 11-7, 11-6.

Men’s singles 45+ (finals): 2-Amitoj Inder Singh bt 1-Jehangir Surti 11-8, 11-6, 11-5.

Doubles Open (finals): Samir Mistry/Sanjay Pawar bt Shashi Pandey/Shashi Pareek 11-7, 11-10.
