Former Indian player Sujata Kar and Aishwarya Bonde scored from long range efforts to power FC Mumbaikar to a convincing 2-0 win against hosts Bombay Gymkhana in a concluding Group-A Women’s league match of the MDFA Leagues 2017-18 and played at the Bombay Gymkhana ground, on Thursday.
FC Mumbaikar against the run of play took the lead when Sujata unleashed a rasping 30-yard shot to find the back of the net midway through the first half. A couple of minutes later, left back Aishwarya Bonde pounced on a weak clearance just inside the opponents half and quickly fired home with a powerful essay to double the lead.
In another match of the same group, defending champions Football Leaders Academy and PIFA played out a goalless draw.
Both FC Mumbaikar (7 points) and Football Leaders (5 points) qualified for the quarter-finals from this group.
