Stylish Pooja dominates; Mahak shines


 

Top seeded  lefthander Pooja Deolekar  quelled the spirited challenge of unseeded Vaidehi Dilip Mohite 21-17, 21-16 to storm into the women’s singles semi finals of the  Mumbai Suburban District badminton Championships, hosted by Khar Gymkhana at their courts here today.

 

Sharing the day’s honours with stylish Pooja was Mahak Nayak, who made the last four in both the girls under-19 as well as in the girls under-17 singles. Mahak outplayed her rival Nidhi Chauhan 21-14, 21-6 in the under-17 singles, but in the under-19 singles against Nidhi Davem, she dropped the first game before  she fought back to grab the second to take the tie to the wire. Even in the decider, it was quite a tough going before  she triumphed 7-21, 21-19, 23-21.

 

However, there were no stopping the men’s top two – Gaurav Rege and Varun Majumdar, as they just brushed aside their respective rivals without much ado on way to the last four..
