St. Paul’s, Dadar dished out a determined fighting display and managed to script a narrow 2-1 win against St. Peter’s, Vasai in a thrilling first round Men’s match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organized 31st Inter-Parish 5-a-side Rink Football Tournament – 2018 for the Victor D’Mello Trophy and played under floodlights at the gymkhana’s tennis courts.
The hero of the Dadar parish’s win was striker Merwin Stephen who netted both the goal. For St. Peter’s the lone goal was scored by Nimish Shetty.
Meanwhile, in a high-scoring encounter, St. Anthony’s ‘A’, Malwani romped to a 7-2 win against St. Joseph’s, Juhu. For St. Anthony’s strikers Anuj Lal, Valentino Pinto and Alex Halam all scored a brace of goals while Ankit Koli got one and St. Joseph’s got their goals through Nishant Dalvi and Ahmed Shaikh.
In the third match of the day, Sacred Heart, Vashi got the better of fancied Our Lady of Egypt ‘A’, Kalina 3-1. Nikhil Prabhu, Francisco Dominic and Daniel Muthu were on target with a goal each for the Vashi parish, while Cedric D’Mello netted the lone consolation goal for the Kalina outfit.
Results – 1st round: St. Anthony’s ‘A’, Malwani 7 (Anuj Lal 2, Valentino Pinto 2, Alex Halam 2, Ankit Koli 1) beat St. Joseph’s, Juhu 2 (Nishant Dalvi 1, Ahmed Shaikh 1).
Sacred Heart, Vashi 3 (Nikhil Prabhu 1, Francisco Dominic 1, Daniel Muthu 1) beat Our Lady of Egypt ‘A’, Kalina 1 (Cedric D’Mello).
St. Paul ‘A’, Dadar 2 (Merwin Stephen 2) beat St. Peter’s, Vasai 1 (Nimish Shetty).
