St. Lawrence, Kandivali were in great form and scored once in each half to tame Sacred Heart, Santacruz 2-0 to emerge champions of the Bengal Club organised Inter-Schools Boys’ Under-16 Football Tournament. Midfielder Ashutosh Sawant was responsible for providing the assists for consistent scorers Bishal Parikh and Dhruv Belgave, to score the goals for St. Lawrence which helped them to lift the coveted Bengal Club ‘Champions’ Trophy.
The Kandivali schoolboys were better organised in both attack and defence and dictated terms against their Santacruz opponents from the outset in the final played at Shivaji Park, Dadar.
Midway through the first half, Ashutosh with a measured forward pass found Bishal ideally positioned on the right side of the rival box. Bishal controlled the ball and coolly let fly a right-footer past the diving efforts of Sacred Heart goalkeeper Harsh Singh to the far corner and give St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead.
In the second session, Sacred Heart tried to fight back but their hopes of scoring a goal were dashed by the rival defenders. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence doubled their lead late in the game when Ashutosh floated the ball into the Sacred Heart area and Dhruv leapt high and headed home the second goal, which sealed their triumph.
Results: Boys’ Under-16 – Finals: St. Lawrence, Kandivali 2 (Bishal Parikh, Dhruv Belgave) beat Sacred Heart, Santacruz 0.
