St. Andrew’s junior college put up stupendous fight back to rally from 0-1 down to beat another Bandra outfit, Rizvi Junior College 2-1 to clinch the boys under-17 title in the Maharashtra government’s DSO (Divisional Sports Office)’s Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament (for Suburban schools), organized and sponsored by Vision Sports Reconnect and Fairplay Sports Management, at St Francis D’Assisi high school ground (Borivali) ground here today. The corresponding title in the girls section was claimed by RSB Arya Vidyamandir from Juhu, who beat MMK Jr College (Bandra) 3-1. Kritika Chhabra, was their pivot in their triumph.

Played in virtual downpour with underfoot conditions hardly conducive to good movements, Rizvi went into the lead when Krish Adhikari took a shot from almost the centre line which sailed over Andrews goalkeeper’s head into the net. Thereafter it became a tough task as both the sides tried short passes and followed it by ariel shots only to be thwarted by slushy spots inside the box, resulting in their feeble attempts failing to find the target.

Changing ends after the breather, St. Andrews changed the gears and a long shot from the right flank by Shriyas Sail saw Rizvi goalkeeper jumping high in the air only to see it slips into the net. This was the boost that St. Andrews boys needed. They not only equalised, but went to score again just few minutes before the final whistle when in a skirmish in front of Rizvi goal, Naresh Bohra slipped the ball in to the delight of their supporters.
