Bespectacled Srushti Haleangadi, who has been in roaring form this season, played a stellar role in her side’s 3-1 win over Payal Bohra led- R.A.Podar in the girls under-19 final of the DSO’s (Divisional Sports Office)’s Mumbai City table tennis tournament, organised and sponsored by Vision Sports Reconnect and Fairplay Sports Management at Dharvi Sports Complex here today.
While Srushti has been in fine form, surprisingly, junior Payal, who was quite often being her nemesis no so long ago, was quite rusty as she has skipped the whole season and did not play any of the open tornaments. It was Srushti’s win over Payal that virtually sealed Jai Hind’s hopes. Earlier, Srusti has outplayed Vidhi Dhoot, another promising player, in straight games.
Dadar’s Antonio da Silva School which has produced Shubham Ambre, currently State’s top player, were made to fight hard before they got the better of Cathedral and John Connon 3-2 to bag the boys under-17 title in. Earlier, in the semifinals too, the Antonio boys were fully stretched by Sane Guruji 3-2, while Cathedral downed Campion (Colaba) 3-1.
