South Mumbai FC put up a determined performance to overcome Seven Star Digital 2-1 in a hard-fought Third Division match of the Rustomjee-MDFA League 2019-2020 and played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Sunday.
In an evenly contested encounter, South Mumbai grabbed the initiative by taking a ninth minute lead when striker Mohd. Ali Sayed was bang on target and went into the break with a 1-0 half-time lead.
Seven Star fought on gamely and midway through the second session managed to score the eqlualiser through Karthik Chauhan’’s strike in the 40th minute of the 50-minute match. South Mumbai scored the crucial winner in the final minute through Abedali Chitawala to snatch a close win and take the full three points.
Later in the day, Azlan Bhamia scored deep into stoppage time to help South Mumbai United (SMU) FC force an honourable 1-1 draw with Life Care Foundation in another keenly contested match. After a barren first half, Life Care took the lead through Zubair Shaikh’s strike in the 35th minute. But, South Mumbai United managed to find an equalizer at the death when Azlan Bhamia slotted home in the third minute of additional period to save the day for SMU and share two points with Life Care Foundation.
