Bandra Packers energetic striker Snehal Manchakar played a stellar role in guiding her team to the women’s semi-final round of the Late Dereyk DeSouza Memorial Trophy — Catholic Gymkhana Annual Rink Football tournament. Snehal, the livewire in the Packers attack scored the all-important goal, which paved the way for the Bandra outfit to overcome Mumbai United 1-0 in a quarter-final match, played on the Gymkhana’s floodlit courts, Marine Lines.
Earlier in a men’s open pre-quarter-final match for the Late Darryl Crasto Memorial Trophy, Juhu Sports Club prevailed over I.C. Extension, Borival by a 3-1 margin. Once again Ryan D’Silva played the lead role for the Juhu side with two strikes while Siddhesh Batawale got one to complete the win. The Borivali club reduced the margin through Karim Amin.
In another men’s match, Macabbi Seniors pulled off a close 3-2 win against Parle United. For the winners, Francis Rodrigues scored a brace of goals and Nigel Pereira one, while Melwyn Mascarenhas an, Gordon Mascarenhas scored a goal each for the Parle team.
Later in a veteran men’s last 16 round encounter, State Bank of India recovered from 0-1 first half deficit to edge past Spartans SC 2-1. Hardworking Santosh More scored the equaliser and then set up Lawrence Fernandes to score the second goal which proved to be the winning goal. Spartans had taken the lead through Anthony D’Souza’s first half goal.
