Going on the lines of Indian Badminton League( IBL) , the enthusiastic badminton players from PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Mumbai had organized Badminton league matches, with only doubles matches played among four teams namely ‘Acers’, ‘Smashers’,’Dazzlers’ and ‘Masters’ owned by Samir Shah, Rahul Doshi, Paresh Shah and Parag Shah respectively.
Smashers led by Sandeep Dhillon and owned by Rahul Doshi had Nigel D’sa making the team strong on papers with other players like Maria D’sa, kamlesh Dholakia, Apurva Dharia, Sandeep Thakkar Tushar Jhaveri,Rohan Shah,Mayur Vyas,Quaid Topiwala & Meeta Talati . But, they had found strong contenders in Masters team owned by Parag Shah, with Deepak Jaitley and Sanket Shetty in the lead. Till the final round, both the teams had tied up with the same score.
However, in their last match ‘Smashers’ changed their combinations for doubles and this move proved to be beneficial for them and they emerged winners of this Prize Money badminton League.
Team ‘Acers’ owned by Samir Shah had former international and doubles specialist Leroy D’sa leading their side, but it was the day of his wife and son’s team Smashers. The fourth team led by Yogesh Padukone and owned by Paresh Shah also offered good fight. Overall, the tournament received very good response, with good show by organizer and Badminton Secretary Ketan Pandya.
