Shruti Sonavane and Ritikesh Walmiki bagged the girls’ and boys’ singles titles respectively in the Bank of Maharashtra-1st Mumbai District Morrac Championship – 2018.
In the girl’s final, Shruti Sonavane managed to win a closely fought first set against Amulya Rajula but then was in full flow in the second and went on to complete a straight sets 36-34, 44-25 triumph at the Vanmali Hall, Dadar.
The boys final also witnessed a similar close fight initially as Ritikesh snatched tight first set Dushyant Gupta. Thereafter, Ritikesh showed better consistency and dominated play as he went on to register a 36-34, 38-21 success to emerge champion.
Earlier in the girl’s semi-finals, Shruti overcame Anjali Rodiyal 34-23, 35-21 and Amulya easily defeated Mansi Pandit 32-19, 38-27.
In contrast, the boys’ semi-finals were keenly contested and more exciting. Ritikesh recovered after losing the first set to put it across Sarthak Nagaonkar winning at 27-42, 28-11 and 43-28, while Dushyant also rallied to overcome Harish Anwar 24-36, 35-31, 35-34.
In the veterans’ category, Suresh Kajrolkar claimed the top honours as he pulled off a hard-fought win against Rohidas Tikam, scripting a 34-35, 37-25, 30-18 victory.
