The top two seeds S. Shrikrishna of Tamil Nadu and Ishpreet Singh Chaddha of Maharashtra stayed on course to go the distance as they both, easily advanced to the quarter-finals of the Bombay Gymkhana Youth Snooker Open 2019, organized under the aegis of the BSAM, and played at the Bombay Gymkhana billiards room.
In pre-quarter-final matches, the Chennai-based number one seed Shrikrishna, who is India’s fifth ranked junior snooker player, potted steadily to waltz past Adil Khan winning in straight frames, 3-0 (52-25, 106-4 and 68-26). Later in the day, Mumbai’s second seed Ishpreet called the shots against Sahil Kakad and without much of a fuss raced to a 3-0 win. Ishpreet fired in breaks of 44 and 62 in the first and second frames to complete a 77-30, 69-14 and 76-37 victory.
Meanwhile, Asutosh Padhy produced an impressive break of 92 to sent Uttar Pradesh’s Vishwajeet Mohan, India’s junior number four snooker player, crashing out in the round of 16. Asutosh struck good form and after comfortably winning the first two frames he showed his class by producing the big effort to run away with the match as the frame scores read 66-39, 63-52 and 92-7 in his favour.
In the only match that went the distance, Taaha Khan of Railway got the better of Suraj Rathi 3-2 in five closely contested frames. In a match of fluctuating fortunes Taaha managed to hold his nerves to snatch a satisfying 35-62, 49-37, 70-34, 45-65 and 45-13 victory.
