Shashank Bisht quelled the spirited challenge of Sujay Malik as he beat the latter 11-8, 6-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-3 to win the men’s singles title in a thrilling final of the P-3 Sports’- 3rd Mumbai Inter-Corporate table tennis tournament, held at Khar Gymkhana here last night.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Shashank upset fancied Suraj Chandrashekhar 11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-7 while Sujay surprised top seeded Suhas Chavan in straight games. Suhas, who was a firm favourite in the veteran singles too, was packed off by Vivek Bhargav (11-6, 11-9, 11-4) , who went on to clinch the veteran singles crown. Yash Doshi and Akash Damle from TCS, in the evening’s last final- the men’s doubles – scored over Suraj Chandrashekhar and Aditya Tawde 11-6, 9-11, 7-11, 13-11, 11-6.
However, the team championship final between HDFC and TCS (Tata Consultancy Service) proved to be quite an engrossing affair. HDFC’s Suraj was beaten by Akash Damle in a thrilling first tie. But Yash Doshi brought parity by scoring over Vishal Yadav in a tensely fought second tie. It was, however, the doubles tie that brought HDFC closer to the title as their pair of Suraj and Yash put out Akash and Vishal in four games. Leading 2-1, Suraj struck a purple patch as he thrashed Vishal in straight games to clinch the team title.
Miss World 2013, Ms Simrn Ahuja, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes.
